My name is Jeff Philipbar, and I'm the guy that does the artwork on this site.
I live in the Hudson Valley area of New York with three of my most favorite people, my wife and my two black labs.
I started drawing when I was a kid. My early art was inspired by drawing pictures of my favorite comic book and comic strip heroes. I was always in awe of the art created by the artists in Mad magazine.
In high school I started a comic strip which came out weekly. I did caricatures of kid's faces with animal bodies. I majored in commercial art at a local community college and also attended the School Of Visual Arts. in N.Y.C.
After school I served in the Air Force for 4 years. While in the service, I had a comic strip in the local Air Force paper. When I got out of the Airforce, My career took a detour for about 25 years. My dad and I ran a Sporting Goods store and a trapshooting range.
While at the store , I explored new forms of art which I sold in our store. I became a scrimshaw artist, making jewelry, belt buckles and engravings on Ivory.
Shortly after we closed the store in 1999, I got a job as the art teacher at a local private school. I have been teaching 1st-8th grades since then. I enjoy teaching a lot.
While being a teacher, I have also pursued my own art career. I have been a political cartoonist for a series of local newspapers. I have also done book illustrations.
I am the artist "Puablo" on the sports website called "Trapshooters.com". I submit a weekly cartoon dealing with the sport and also politics and current events.
Of all the art I do, I enjoy doing caricatures the best.
With all the trouble in the world today, I like to try to put a smile on peoples faces with my art work.
So I hope you enjoy my site.
